Tiger New Year Card Workshop

Every year we try to hold a workshop with a New Year card theme. This year was a challenge because many areas of Beijing were facing restrictions, but we still managed a couple of workshops with a fun animated tiger card. Title of paper: Thinking with Card: Curriculum-Led Making Activities Integrated with Distance Learning

LBB Climbing Game and DIY Papercraft Toy

An interactive game exhibit based on popular children’s IP, LuoBaoBei, coupled with a DIY toy both based on an episode about climbing.

CAFA X Makedo

This interactive workshop/exhibition was part of a larger series of workshops I organised during Beijing Design Week 2015. The unusual venue (a high-end shopping mall not far from the 798 Art District in Beijing) was an attempt to bring making activity to a wider audience.

Zoetrope Papercraft

This design was created for a series of workshops our studio was commissioned to produce for CCTV. Using the materials provided, participants could make a working zoetrope and create their own simple animation to play. The activity was part of an introduction to animation, from which a group of kids would work with an international team of professional animators to create short movies.

Claystation X Spongebob at Beijing Design Week

A big production, supported by Nickelodeon, for Beijing Design Week where visitors could craft their own Spongebob or Patrick figures and put them on display. This was a really popular, fun event. Spongebob “superfans” travelled from as far as Shanghai to take part.

The Emotional Jukebox — Exploring Nostalgia and Tangible Media in Selecting and Playing music

This is a paper presented at the 7th International Conference on Design & Emotion, at IIT Institute of Design, Chicago, October 4–7, 2010. and published in the proceedings: Blatantly Blues. ISBN 978–0615406664. It even won the “Best Design Case” award!

Next Stages in Automated Craft: The Integration of Rapid Manufacture Technologies into Craft and DIY Applications

A conference paper, co-written with Matt Sinclair, that I presented at the IDSA Conference 2010 DIY: Threat or Opportunity, 4th-7th August 2010, Portland, Oregon.
