CAFA X Makedo

This interactive workshop/exhibition was part of a larger series of workshops I organised during Beijing Design Week 2015. The unusual venue (a high-end shopping mall not far from the 798 Art District in Beijing) was an attempt to bring making activity to a wider audience.

This workshop was organised with my students from CAFA using the Makedo tools, designed by Paul Justin. This is a kit of tools and fasteners that can be used to make surprisingly complex and sturdy structures in corrugated cardboard.
I always wanted to try these out for a project, and this seemed like a good opportunity.

Beijing Design Week usually occurs during the October holiday, or Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节). In relation to this, we decided on a rabbit theme (too much to explain here haha). We created a large scale sculpture of two rabbits as a feature on the top floor of the mall and then two smaller models that visitors could make: a rabbit mask and a carrot.
